The 38-foot tower was built in 1833. Located at the head of the Chesapeake Bay It serves traffic to and from the Susquehanna River. The last woman keeper in the nation retired from this lighthouse in 1947.

Idustrially this community has one principal industry, a great limestone quarry. Cottages and cabins and boats for the fisherman are in abundance.
