Nantucket Lightship

A lightvessel, or lightship, is a ship which acts as a lighthouse. They are used in waters that are too deep or otherwise unsuitable for lighthouse construction

Lightship LV-112
Nantucket Shoal Station, MA 1937
Built in 1936 to replace Lightship #117 after it was struck and sunk with seven of its 11 crew members. Heavy seas and thick fog made this a dangerous station on the south end of the shoal.

This postcard is a reproduction card, based on an older image. It is standard sized.
